Mariupol, the City of Mary (poster)

When I was a child, I saw an image of Virgin Mary holding a heart pierced with a sword at my grandma's house and it puzzled me a lot. That image got stuck somewhere in my memory for many years.

Now the city of Mary - Mariupol in Ukraine - has been brutally destroyed by the russian invaders. Hearing the horrible news about Mariupol, I think of it as that wounded heart which keeps on beating.
The old icon that was my inspiration, covered with a traditional Ukrainian rushnyk hand-embroidered by my grandmother.
The poster was a part of various online and offline exhibitions, such as charity art shows at The Pentagon Centre, Glasgow (2022), War Knocked on the Door to my House project at Show Gallery, Los Angeles (2023), War Time Graphics show at Corridor Gallery, Los Angeles (2023).
